The two behemoths eventually fall into the sea and the movie ends with Godzilla missing and Kong swimming away. We get an extended fight this time from two guys in ill-fitting rubber suits where Godzilla’s atomic breath no longer seems to bother Kong. Fuji, where Godzilla is, and sets him free in the hope the two giant monsters will destroy each other. The Japanese army then…and I’m not making this up…uses a bunch of balloons to float Kong to Mt. Kong enters Tokyo and grabs a girl to carry around and the army shots a bunch of capsules filled with a gas made from the island berry juice and knocks him out. It works with the big lizard but the King Kong in this movie eats up electricity like Popeye does spinach. When that fails, they set up power lines all around Tokyo charged with one million volts to act as a massive electric fence and keep Godzilla out of the city. The Japanese army tries to kill Godzilla with a giant pit filled with explosives and poison gas. Panic at the disco.because a giant monster is attacking! They fight for about 45 seconds before Kong seems to realize “Holy crap! This thing breathes fire! I can’t deal with that!” and runs away. Kong wakes up, swims the rest of the way to Japan, and runs into Godzilla. Somehow the Japanese producers build a giant raft, get the unconscious Kong onto it, and start dragging him back to Japan to be some sort of publicity stunt. Is blackface still offensive if Asians do it? I’m not clear where that ranks on the intersectionality scale of Cancel Culture.Īnyway, it turns out the legendary giant monster is King Kong who, after dispensing with a giant octopus who attacks the native village (and is represented on screen by an actual octopus writing around in a way that would NEVER get past studio censors and animal activists today), gets drunk off his epic ape ass by drinking berry juice and passes out. The producers ingratiate themselves to the island natives and I’ve got to ask a question about that. The drug company is also the chief sponsor of a Japanese TV show and it decides to send a couple of producers to the island to investigate the legend. The island also has a legend of a giant monster that lives there. A Japanese drug company has discovered a type of berry on a remote island that can produce a powerful and non-addictive narcotic. The King Kong part of the plot is a big more involved. version, which intersperses a buttload of English-language scenes of a United Nations TV news service throughout the original Japanese footage, sees Godzilla break out of an iceberg and immediately head back to terrorizing Japan. This girl witnessed the death of not only her parents but her entire civilization. version and it is a god awful motion picture, even by the standards of the Godzilla franchise…which can be fairly termed a bit of an “acquired taste.” There’s a version made for Japan and another one re-edited for the United States and if you want to see one, make sure it is the Japanese version. Godzilla” (1963) is only the third film in the Godzilla franchise and is probably the one that actually cemented the idea the public would keep paying to watch these things. Not the same exact way with no explanation whatsoever (Seriously, unless I really missed something, it was never explained why Cyberdyne's research was somehow given to the military before Dyson destroyed it). One, it should be a NEW way to destroy itself. But there's three problems with how T3 does this. It's trying to say that mankind will always find new ways to destroy itself. I get what T3 is trying to say with it's "delay the inevitable" thing. And the worst part is, they totally could've done a nihilistic twist on the theme well but just didn't. It wrecks the optimistic themes underlying the first two films. What kind of a message does that send to people? "We're all f*cked so you may as well just not even try to help things?". But they didn't fail, they were straight up led away and forced to give up. So, why not try again? If they delayed it once, why can't they keep fighting, why not keep delaying it? It's one thing if they lose, if Judgement Day comes because they failed. Except they did delay Judgement Day, they DID change the future. But worse than that, it doesn't make sense in its own internal logic either. T3 comes along and spits in that idea's face, and in doing so it makes Sarah's actions in T2 be for absolutely nothing. What was the theme of T1 and 2? It was said aloud in T2 and alluded to in T1 (It was in T1's script but cut out of the final product for some reason). Speaking of dates, they mess up character ages and shift around events of previous films. Skynet having sent Terminators scattershot to kill Sarah because they had no info on John or his age? Now they have exact dates for tons of people in the resistance including John. Sarah's importance as a legendary hero? Now she just died off-screen and her legacy boils down to leaving some weapons for her son. And in a cruel turn, it reverses everything established in T1 and T2. It's like going from Batman Returns to Batman Forever, except I'd argue Batman Forever has more f*ckin' dignity than this film. It's a parody, and not a parody made out of humorous appreciation, but a parody made of pure disdain for the film. The film is essentially someone making fun of T2. It was written by a writer who called Terminator 2 "bloated self-important garbage", and it shows. The only good things about it are the action sequences and the ending. It makes fun of itself way beyond an appropriate level. Makes John out to be a bumbling fucking mess. Then it rewrites the rules of time travel and makes up a new final destination style fate. It forgets when things happened, forgets John's age. Story-wise, it rewrites aspects of the lore. It's by far the least creative "title sequence" you could possibly imagine. You know, with the score and title sequence of the first two movies. But compared to what you came to expect, it's just. only to find that it's watered down and flat. It's like opening a can of soda and taking a sip, expecting it to be crisp, fresh, fully carbonated. I could probably write a whole book documenting the run up to the release of T3 - interesting, fun times.ĮDIT: As for what I think of the film, it looks like a cheap made-for-TV movie, with way too much humor, and its only saving grace is the ending, an ending which it neither earns nor deserves. A few years passed before it dipped below that. It’s IMDb score began at 7.3 and then leveled at 7.0. The consensus was that it was an entertaining and well made action film with a powerful ending, while not as good as the first 2. T3 was one of them.Īnd also, the few weeks leading up to the release, there was a lot of positive buzz around T3, believe it or not.Įveryone was expecting a complete disaster, but the fact that it wasn’t was a pleasant surprise for the vast majority of film critics. It was also the second biggest hit of Arnold’s career.īack in those days, a lot of films made up for any box office shortcomings in the home video market. While it fell short of T2 numbers, it made back its budget, and it did VERY WELL in DVD sales. Check out this post about how to make better buying decisions. Geralt is a fine swordsman, able to control both crowds of jabbing bandits and the hulking beasts that he pursues across the countryside for rich bounties. But his true home is in video games.Īs a Witcher, he has many talents, which make him the perfect, pliable protagonist. The lead character of The Witcher 3 first appeared in the fantasy novels of Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. If you're interested in the Xbox One X, here are some other articles you might enjoy.Geralt of Rivia was born in literature. Each player's love of the game and desire for quality and love of the game will determine whether the improvements in performance and visuals on the One X are sufficient to motivate starting the game over from scratch if they've been playing on the Pro. As this was written, the One X has the distinct advantage of HDR support, but CD Projekt RED promises HDR for the Pro in the near future. However, the visuals on the Pro are almost as good, and the frame rate drop is only around 5 fps compared to the One X. The Witcher 3 doesn't look as good or play as well on the PS4 Pro as it does on the One X. However, you'll have to choose between the 4K and performance modes. It’s the best looking and playing console version on the market. If you’re already playing Witcher 3 on a One X, or you have a One X and don’t have the game on console, the enhanced version is a no-brainer. If you want the best performance on console, the One X enhanced version is your game. The downsides are a widely variable frame rate and visuals that are inferior to those seen in the One X’s 4K mode. Performance mode is the only console version of the game that plays at frame rates higher than 30 fps. The Xbox One X enhanced version of Witcher 3 offers console players a unique opportunity and a difficult choice. However, texture filtering, ambient occlusion and shadow quality are cut back in performance mode. The bottom line is that the visual differences between the performance and 4K modes on the One X are more noticeable than those between the One X’s 4K mode and the Pro. Textures, draw distances and HDR support are the same for the 4K and performance modes on the One X. Resolution tended toward the higher end of this range, but 1332p is not an ideal resolution for a large-screen, 4K-capable TV. Performance mode uses dynamic scaling with resolutions that ranged between 1920 x 10 x 1332 in Digital Foundry’s tests. Resolution and graphics quality are cut back in the One X’s performance mode in favor of an uncapped frame rate. CD Projekt RED has said HDR support for the Pro is coming soon. The only graphics differences between the two consoles are HDR support and sharper, more detailed shadows on the One X. Improvements to textures, texture filtering, and ambient occlusion that CD Projekt RED added to its upgrade for the Pro are carried over to the 4K mode on the One X. However, the resolution differences between the One X and the Pro that are obvious in still images may not be as noticeable while playing the game. Side-by-side comparisons on ElAnalistaDeBits and VG Tech show a sharper and more detailed image on the One X in 4K mode. The PS4 Pro version of Witcher 3 relies on checkerboard rendering without dynamic scaling to produce 2160p throughout the game. This is a massive increase in sharpness and detail over the 900p produced by the vanilla Xbox One. Digital Foundry recorded resolutions ranging from 1800p in Crookback Bog to a full native 4K (3840 x 2160) in less demanding areas. The 4K mode relies on dynamic resolution scaling to preserve its 30 fps frame rate. However, the platforming is great while it lasts and the fighting is solid, but more ship battles would have been appreciated. Switching forms is quick and easy.Ĭharacter switching doesnÂ’t have a puzzle function here there are only environmental hazards to avoid. SpidermonkeyÂ’s inconsistent controls frustrate, but the game has smooth controls by and large. The music is mostly forgettable, and the sound effects don't offer much variety. There are times where the pre-rendered backgrounds makes it tough to figure out where you can and canÂ’t land, but theyÂ’re beautiful overall. Switching forms is easy thanks to the touch screen.Ben Tennyson's DS excursion is more enjoyable than its Wii counterpart, but only for a very short amount of time. There are no unlockables except for character profiles (which are simply text), so thereÂ’s little reason to go back when you're finished. Finally, because you have to upgrade each character separately, you will doubtlessly be left with a few characters who are borderline useless towards the end of the game.īen 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks is an extremely short experience, clocking in at under three hours of playtime. This means that your window to attack them is very small, thus the fight goes onÂ…and onÂ…and on. Bosses only take about one hit point of damage every time you land a hit, and later bosses are invincible while attacking. They are often interesting and challenging until you figure out how to beat them, at which point you simply repeat the same sequence of events incessantly until they die. Without a doubt, the most frustrating part of the game is its boss fights. You can walk up to left wall, but not the right one. The web-swinging and wall-crawling are also bizarrely inconsistentÂ-you canÂ’t do either one everywhere. ItÂ’s an awkward move that effectively requires you to press B with your thumb and X with your index finger. The character Spidermonkey has the ability to “web-swing” and climb up walls, but his web-swinging is severely hampered by the fact that you have to press X extremely quickly after jumping with B in order to successfully attach the line to the ceiling. Combat, while serviceable, is incredibly simple, asking you only to bash out the same two or three button combinations during brawls (of which there are many). YouÂ’ll hear the same few sound effects for the entire game, and the music isnÂ’t exciting enough to be particularly memorable. ItÂ’s too bad theyÂ’re over so quickly, and there are no epic boss fights in these interplanetary shooter areas.īut itÂ’s not all wine and roses. Finally, while they were completely throwaway in the Wii game, the interplanetary ship sections are very fun here, bringing to mind “bullet hell” shoot-‘em-ups. Life bars extend, offensive power increases, and attack combos increase as you collect experience orbs. Another nicety is that your character upgrades himself in a very noticeable way. This is still annoying, but itÂ’s certainly a smoother transition than on the Wii. You still canÂ’t switch from one alien to another on the fly, though you must transform back into Ben before going to a new alien form. Switching forms is handled far better on the DS: rather than having to cycle through available forms, you can just tap whatever form you want on the touch screen to transform into it. The control scheme is, for the most part, simplistic but effective. The worlds you visit are nicely divergent, too, and look significantly different from their Wii counterparts. It looks great, and every character features unique animations and attack sequences. The graphics are done in the style of an SNES Donkey Kong Country game, with pixelized versions of rendered character models and pre-rendered backgrounds. Unfortunately, itÂ’s also ridiculously short. The fighting isnÂ’t much better, but the game sure looks beautiful. The DS version retains the core concept of switching alien forms to move through the environment, but does so as a 2D side-scroller. Some of you may remember my recent review of the Wii version of Ben 10 Alien Force: Vilgax Attacks.
