![]() Not the same exact way with no explanation whatsoever (Seriously, unless I really missed something, it was never explained why Cyberdyne's research was somehow given to the military before Dyson destroyed it). ![]() One, it should be a NEW way to destroy itself. But there's three problems with how T3 does this. It's trying to say that mankind will always find new ways to destroy itself. I get what T3 is trying to say with it's "delay the inevitable" thing. And the worst part is, they totally could've done a nihilistic twist on the theme well but just didn't. It wrecks the optimistic themes underlying the first two films. What kind of a message does that send to people? "We're all f*cked so you may as well just not even try to help things?". But they didn't fail, they were straight up led away and forced to give up. So, why not try again? If they delayed it once, why can't they keep fighting, why not keep delaying it? It's one thing if they lose, if Judgement Day comes because they failed. ![]() Except they did delay Judgement Day, they DID change the future. But worse than that, it doesn't make sense in its own internal logic either. T3 comes along and spits in that idea's face, and in doing so it makes Sarah's actions in T2 be for absolutely nothing. What was the theme of T1 and 2? It was said aloud in T2 and alluded to in T1 (It was in T1's script but cut out of the final product for some reason). Speaking of dates, they mess up character ages and shift around events of previous films. Skynet having sent Terminators scattershot to kill Sarah because they had no info on John or his age? Now they have exact dates for tons of people in the resistance including John. Sarah's importance as a legendary hero? Now she just died off-screen and her legacy boils down to leaving some weapons for her son. ![]() And in a cruel turn, it reverses everything established in T1 and T2. It's like going from Batman Returns to Batman Forever, except I'd argue Batman Forever has more f*ckin' dignity than this film. It's a parody, and not a parody made out of humorous appreciation, but a parody made of pure disdain for the film. The film is essentially someone making fun of T2. It was written by a writer who called Terminator 2 "bloated self-important garbage", and it shows. The only good things about it are the action sequences and the ending. It makes fun of itself way beyond an appropriate level. Makes John out to be a bumbling fucking mess. Then it rewrites the rules of time travel and makes up a new final destination style fate. It forgets when things happened, forgets John's age. Story-wise, it rewrites aspects of the lore. It's by far the least creative "title sequence" you could possibly imagine. You know, with the score and title sequence of the first two movies. But compared to what you came to expect, it's just. only to find that it's watered down and flat. It's like opening a can of soda and taking a sip, expecting it to be crisp, fresh, fully carbonated. ![]() I could probably write a whole book documenting the run up to the release of T3 - interesting, fun times.ĮDIT: As for what I think of the film, it looks like a cheap made-for-TV movie, with way too much humor, and its only saving grace is the ending, an ending which it neither earns nor deserves. A few years passed before it dipped below that. It’s IMDb score began at 7.3 and then leveled at 7.0. The consensus was that it was an entertaining and well made action film with a powerful ending, while not as good as the first 2. T3 was one of them.Īnd also, the few weeks leading up to the release, there was a lot of positive buzz around T3, believe it or not.Įveryone was expecting a complete disaster, but the fact that it wasn’t was a pleasant surprise for the vast majority of film critics. It was also the second biggest hit of Arnold’s career.īack in those days, a lot of films made up for any box office shortcomings in the home video market. While it fell short of T2 numbers, it made back its budget, and it did VERY WELL in DVD sales. ![]()
